Breathe In, Breathe Out: Welcome to the Grown Folks Corner

If you’re a teacher, you already know—our days are full.

Full of lesson plans, grading, parent emails, testing deadlines, and the endless pivoting between one need and the next. We carry more than our fair share of emotional weight, yet the world rarely stops to ask how we are doing.

That’s why I created the Grown Folks Corner—a space on this blog just for us. A place where we can set the grading pen down, release the weight of the day, and reconnect to the part of ourselves that exists outside the classroom walls.

My song “Breathe In, Breathe Out” came out of my own need to slow down. It’s made up of quotes, affirmations, scriptures, and original lyrics that remind me—and hopefully you—that even in the middle of a hard season, we can still find our rhythm again.

Breathe in, breathe out / Hear my heart song / Even though I’m weak / I’m moving along / I’ll find my way / Step by step I’ll heal each day / I’m still here breathing on.

This isn’t just music—it’s medicine for the soul after a day of pouring into others. It’s the soundtrack for those afternoons when the staff meeting ran long, the copier jammed again, and you haven’t had a quiet moment to yourself since 7:15 a.m.In this corner of the blog, you’ll find:

  • Songs and spoken word pieces for reflection

  • Gentle reminders to care for your mind and body

  • Honest conversations about the emotional labor of teaching

  • Ways to protect your peace while staying passionate about your work

The world of education is changing fast, and the pressures are real but here, we slow down. We exhale. We breathe in hope, and breathe out the stress.

So, from one educator to another—pull up a chair, put in your earbuds, and take a few minutes just for you.

Remember: You can’t pour into others if your own cup is empty.

XOXO
